Folios 23-24: John Inglis, HMS Belliqueux, Yarmouth. After a struggle, this ship was possessed by the crew and brought in here from Admiral Duncan's fleet. He is sending letters of demands from the crew. He has endlessly struggled with the crew to give them a sense of their duty but such were the numbers that all resistance was in vain that the ship was violently taken out of his hands. He was assisted by Lieutenant England and other Lieutenants, Captain Cassell and Lieutenant Pinkerton of the Marines. The Marines joined the Seamen against the Officers. He hopes the Admiralty will understand the position he is in and he will do all he can to follow their directions. HMS Standard and Lion quit the fleet the night before HMS Belliqueux and arrived this morning.
Folio 25: enclosure with folios 23-24. The ship's company have agreed to have Mr Cameron as their Officer and that there is a total forgetfulness of what has past provided he acts in future with his brother Officers. If Inglis agrees the crew will act in total obedience and friendship and neither side will think of what has past.
Folios 26-27: enclosure with folios 23-24. The crew regret what happened on Saturday when Inglish was not permitted on board. The crew has recently settled all their complaints with their Officers. The crew is sorry Inglis thinks they are cowardly. They understand Inglis wanted a conference with the crew about wages but HMS Belliqueux is not due to be paid until the end of July. Inglis made reference to a letter sent by the crew, when he was alongside the ship, but there has been no contact with other ships. Let us remain in friendship and respect.
