Folios 86-87: Joshua Sydney Horton, Liverpool Regulating Captain. Reply to letter 30 August about impressed men. Samuel Graham age 22 Ordinary seaman born Scotland. Arrived as master of the Crescent. A brother brought documents saying he was Master but no register. Said he’d served with Captain McGhie: Peter Sandberry age 19 said born Gothenburg produced a pass but didn’t know where it was from. Born London? James Yead age 35 born in Cheshire. Said he belonged to Penrghin Flatt had no protection: James Yeod age 35 born Cheshire of the Penrghin Flatt had no protection. Indentures are returned. Sends weekly report [no longer present]. Concerned about the French prisoners brought to port under Bond of being sent to prison which the Masters and Merchants ignore. Sent Joseph Calvello and Nich Pilliardell belonging to Ralph Benson to Plymouth on HMS Princess. Requests Mr Benson is contacted to explain.
Folios 88-89: enclosed in folios 86-87. William Yould at Arthur Balls, Danvers Street, Liverpool, 29 August 1809. Writes for his son James Yould, a flatt-man. Says the vessel he belonged to was protected. Asks to be impressed as a substitute for his son.
Folios 90-91: enclosed in folios 88-89. Margaret Yaud, 6 Ormishers Court, Rigby Street, Liverpool, 13 August 1809. Petitions for her husband James Yaud impressed on HMS Princess. Has never been at sea and has eight children. Can she find a substitute?
Folios 92-93: enclosed in folios 86-87. Henry Southern, Cheapside, Liverpool, 27 August 1809. Writing for Peter Sandberry age 16 impressed onboard HMS Princess. He has not been to sea. Requests his discharge for two substitutes.
Folios 94-95: enclosed 86-87. Brown Roger and Brown, London, 29 August 1809. Send the indentures [no longer present] between Nathanial McGhie, Master and Supercargo the Crescent. Samuel Graham was impressed at Liverpool on returning from Africa. Says Graham acted as Captain after Captain McGhie and the first and second Mates died. Requests his discharge for him to complete the deceased’s accounts. He has all his books and papers. Enclosed affidavit [no longer present].
