Folios 574-575: Philip Hue, HMS Actaeon, Liverpool. Responding to Admiralty query of 27 October, says that Stephen Eynouf had been impressed on shore by Captain Goldesborough's gang, but the man says he was born in the canton of Berne, Switzerland, and Hue thinks this is true.
Folios 576-577: enclosure with folios 574-575. Letter dated 18 October 1800 by Stephen Eynouf, Liverpool. on board HMS Actaeon, written in French, to the Ambassador, pleading for his help and saying he had worked for the Marquis de Vernante and other nobles, as a potter ('fayancier') and had come to Liverpool to find such work, but had been impressed. When he objected he was treated barbarously he says.
