Description

Folios 253-254: Charles Wright, Admiralty. Encloses a letter from Captain Hanchett, a friend of his, requesting his son's discharge from HMS St George into HMS Falcon. He would be grateful for their assistance.

Folios 255-257: enclosure with folios 253-254. Letter dated 3 September 1799 from George Ross, 20 Southampton Street, Bloomsbury, [London]., to Mr Hanchett, Abington [Abingdon?] Street, Westminster. In reply to his request to take him under his command he has no objection provided the Admiralty Board orders his discharge which he thinks they will agree when they are told he has been under his care and patronage and it would be a great disadvantage for him to be separated from him.

Folios 257-259: enclosure with folios 253-254. Letter dated 3 September 1799 from J M Hanchett, Abingdon Street, to Evan Nepean. Having sailed with Captain Ross, Commander of HMS Falcon, for two and a half years during which time he was 1st Lieutenant of HMS Impetueux and from whom he received every instruction, he asks for an order to be discharged from HMS St George into HMS Falcon. He encloses Captain Ross's letter expressing his readiness to receive him.

Folios 259-261: enclosure with folios 253-254. Letter dated 25 October 1799 from J Hanchett, Abingdon Street to Evan Nepean, Secretary of the Admiralty. Captain Ross of HMS Falcon wishes to have his son, now a Midshipman in HMS St George, with him in HMS Falcon. Asks him to apply for a request for his discharge into this ship.
