Folios 192-193: J A Gordon, HMS Active. The letter concerns Mr Henry Lew, presently a midshipman on HMS Active. Given his spiritied and meritorious conduct during the Battel of Lissa the Admiralty had recommended his promotion to Lieutenant when he received his passing certificate. This has now arrived and he has forwarded it to the Admiralty and so Captain Gordon asks that Mr Lew be promoted to Lieutenant from the date of his passing certificate.
