Folios 255-256: Ross Donnelly, HMS Ardent, Cawsands Bay. He has received a letter from Captain Palmer of HMS Pheasant, which he encloses. He hopes steps will be taken to let him know which vessels he is to accompany from Falmouth so that the agent there will know which vessels to send out when he arrives at that port.
Folio 257: enclosure with folios 255-256. Letter dated 3 October 1805 from Captain John Palmer, HMS Pheasant, Falmouth to Captain Donelly on board HMS Ardent. He writes that he has just arrived at Falmouth. He has given preliminary instructions to the ships listed in his letter. However, he observes that at present he has only 4 penants. The Agent for transports has no instructions respecting these vessels and so has told them simply to hold themselves in readiness. Clear orders are needed. The list of ships names 13 trade vessels and their masters and a list of the penants assigned to them.
