Folios 309-310: Joseph Ellison, Rendezvous, Gravesend. Reports that Emanuel Simonds [Symonds], the Jewish imposter, whose case was reported in the letter of 31 January, was arrested this morning at Lieutenant Horn's Rendezvous, for a debt of £95. As Captain Ellison had not received a reply to his letter, he did not see fit to release him and instructed that he should be detained at the Rendezvous, with a Sherrif's Officer remaining with him at all times, until there were directions. If he does not receive orders by tomorrow morning, or he should act differently, he requests an express letter with the decision as he suspects that the man belongs to a cunning and wicked gang.
Folio 311: enclosure with folios 309-310. Note with initial"CB" [possibly Mr Bicknell, legal advisor, to whom the last two letters were referred]. I think E Simonds should be delivered to the Sherrif's Officer. It is not certain that he can be prosecuted for the offence with which he is charged, and if he can, he must be searched for later.
