Description

Folio 59: Benjamin Carter, Regulating Captain, Liverpool. Concerning the imprest men, Charles Irvin and Michael Flaherty, Charles Irvin, aged 24 from Ireland was imprest by Lieutenant Clarke but maintained he was a linen merchant but had worked his passage in the Jemima packet; Michael Flaherty, aged 23, was imprest by Lieutenant Pagson and produced an Affidavit in the name of Michael O'Flaherty as Master of the Alert in 1807, which he had signed himself, on being unable to reproduce the signature or spell his name correctly, he produced a torn Certificate of Discharge dated 1808 in the name of Thomas Maden; producing no corroborated evidence and appearing very fit, he was impressed and sent on board HMS Princess.

Folios 60-61: enclosure with folio 59. Letter dated 18 November 1809 from Thomas Hughes, Town Clerk's Office, Liverpool who states that Nicholas Connor, Master of the sloop Betsy of Galway asks to inform the Admiralty that he arrived in Liverpool on 10 November with Michael Flaherty on board as Mate who was then impressed on 14th and sent on board HMS Princess, Nicholas Connor asks that his Mate be discharged.

Folios 62-63: enclosure with folio 59. Letter dated 18 November 1809 from John Topham, Liverpool submits an Affidavit and Certificate on behalf of Charles Irvin

Folio 64: enclosure with folio 59. A Certificate dated 15 November 1809 from the Minister and Churchwardens of the Parish of Michael Ireland that Charles Irvin was no seaman.

Folios 65-66: enclosure in folio 59. An Affidavit dated 18 November 1809 by John Crowther, James Irvin and Patrick Haningan as to the character and occupation of Charles Irvin.
