Folios 341-342: Commander John Crispo, HMS Little Belt, Spithead. He was ordered to take on board six months' provisions and stores. When this was done provisions had to be stored on the mess decks and rows of casks on the gun deck. The vessel was very heavily laden, and so in light airs some merchant ships could outsail her. Is informed that when his ship was in the Danish service she never carried more than three months' provisions, which she can do under hatches. On the return voyage when the provisons had been consumed, she sailed much better.
