Description

Folio 356: Samuel Colquitt, HMS Princess, Liverpool. Receipt of letter enclosing an application from Mr Hughes with a Protection from Thomas Boss and indentures of apprenticeship fo Edward Jones. He is sending the Mayor's reply as to whether the Master had agreed to cancel the indenture when he was on board.

Folios 357-358: enclosure with folio 356. Petition dated 22 February 1806 from Thomas Boss, tailor and habit maker of Liverpool. Edward Jones of Liverpool was legally bound apprentice and has never been at sea in any capacity. he has been led astray and has been insolent to the petitioner who brought him in front of the Magistrates who committed him on board HMS Princess. Given his remorse and the heartbroken entreaties of his parents, he now claims him as an apprentice and requests his discharge.

Folios 359-360: enclosure with folio 356. Letter dated 1 March 1806 from Henry Clay to Captain Colquitt, HMS Princess. Replies to enquiries regarding Thomas Boss. He was sent into the Navy by Mr Alderman Brancker at the request of his Master. he knew nothing of it.

Folio 361: enclosure with folio 356. Letter dated 22 February 1806, Liverpool, from M Hughes, 10 Drury Lane, to William Marsden, Admiralty Office. He is handing in the enclosed and hopes it will be seen in its true light.
