Description

Folios 467-468: John Culverhouse, Liverpool. Regarding the Admiralty's request for information on Samuel Rowley, as this man was impressed on 24 April, during Culverhouse's time, he says it is right for him to respond. Says at the time great pains were taken with his examination and that a wife and 3 or 4 children had been produced as his own - it was only later this was found to be a fraud. The man had only just returned from a voyage and when discovered, confessed he had a family in Ireland. Adds that the length of time between his impress and the current application seems long.

Folios 469-470: enclosure with folios 467-468. Letter dated 29 June 1805 from John Wallworth, Liverpool. Public Office, enclosing the affidavits of two people who know Rowley well to prove that he is not a seaman.

Folio 471: enclosure with folios 467-468. Affidavit signed by Ann Kelly and Mary Rogers, before William Harper JP, that they have known Samuel Rowley for over ten years, that he is 30 years old, a linenweaver, who came over from Dublin to find work and was never otherwise at sea. They say he has a wife and 5 small children to maintain in Co. Down.
