Folio 369-370: Philip Bowes Vere Broke, Brokes Hall, Ipswich. He reminds the Admiralty of their promise to give a Gunner's Warrant to John Thomas, who had served as Gunner's Mate on HMS Shannon so that he may be confirmed as a Gunner on HMS Sapphire where he is currently serving. He was lent to HMS Sapphire by Captain Fowke of HMS Prince. This was done in order to fill a vacancy caused by a gunner who deserted. Captain Brokes recommends him highly.
