Description

Folio 117: Henry Fane, 8 Great George Street. Is sending enclosures from Lieutenant Henry Bolman, HMS Avenger, who served with him on HMS Cambrian and HMS Pomone is highly recommended by him and Sir John Duckworth.

Folios 118-120: enclosed with folio 117: Letter dated 4 February 1813 by Henry Bolman, HMS Avenger, Spithead. Has arrived on HMS Electra and his Commission from Sir John Duckworth has not been confirmed as Captain Beresford was absent. He reminds them of Lord Barham's promise.

Folios 120-121: enclosed with folio 117. Memorial dated 4 February 1813 by Henry Bolman, HMS Royal William, Spithead. Served under Sir John Duckworth until HMS Avenger was wrecked only to find he was not on the Lieutenant's list. Outlines his service on HMS Cambrian, he took a Spanish privateer with Lieutenant Crofton and other expeditions with Lieutenant Pigot in St Mary's River. Pigot and Lawson were promoted and he was promised promtion by Lord Barham. Messers Mitchell and Griffin are now Lieutenants. He helped to destroy batteries at Palamos, St Felieu and Cadiques and captured a vessel at Barcelona. He was a Master's Mate in HMS Bulwark and Pomone and an Acting Lieutenant with Sir John Duckworth so he asked to be commissioned as a Lieutenant.
