Folios 104-105: enclosure in folio 103. Letter dated 23 July 1799 by Captain Robert Barlow, HMS Phoebe, at sea, to Admiral Robert Kingsmill, Admiral of the Blue. Details of a report received from the American ship Planter that she had been attacked by a French privateer. As the Jamaica convoy had not passed he kept a look out. On 18 July 1799 he fell in with HMS Neptune, which had become parted from the convoy and he ordered Captain Brace [Edward Brace], HMS Kangaroo to see her to safety. On 20 July 1799 he fell in with HMS Woolwich with 17 sail of Indiamen, as HMS Dryad and HMS Revolutionaire had joined him, he ordered Captain Mansfield [Charles John Moore Mansfield] of HMS Dryad to escort HMS Woolwich and the Indiamen to Falmouth.
