Administrative / biographical background

The National Fraud Authority (NFA) was the government agency co-ordinating the counter-fraud response in the UK. Initially set up in 2008, it transferred to the Home Office from the Attorney General's office on 1 April 2011, as an executive agency.

In December 2013 it was announced that the NFA would be closed on 31 March 2014 and its responsibilities were transferred to other bodies: strategic development and threat analysis was transferred to the National Crime Agency; Action Fraud (the UK's national fraud reporting service) was transferred to the City of London Police; the e-confidence campaign was transferred to the Home Office; and responsibility for the development of the Counter-fraud Checking Service passed to the Cabinet Office.
