The records in this series are transcripts from Simancas, Madrid, Barcelona and elsewhere in Spain and were assembled by Gustav Bergenroth and Don Pascual de Gayangos. They deal exclusively with the documents relating to English affairs preserved in Spanish archives.

In the mid-19th century the Treasury authorised the preparation and publication by the Public Record Office (PRO) of calendars of state papers, and of documents in foreign archives relating to English history.

Publication note(s)
These transcripts were assembled in connection with the Calendar of State Papers, etc, Spanish (24 volumes, 1862 to 1954), those of the reign of Henry VIII also being used in the Calendar of Letters and Papers, Foreign and Domestic, Henry VIII (37 volumes, 1864 to 1932).
