PRO 30/70
1667-1946
As well as the correspondence of the elder and younger Pitts, Sir Edward Hoare's papers (formerly part of PRO 30/8) include some of John, 2nd Earl of Chatham, and also correspondence, etc. of the Taylor family. The papers as a whole consist of official, semi-official, estate, personal and family correspondence, etc. As might be expected, much of the Chatham/Pitt correspondence consists of solicitations for appointments, promotions and preferments, but the papers also cover a wide variety of other subjects.
The documents have been made up into 8 pieces following the order of the list compiled by the National Register of Archives in 1957, with the exception of documents (and other objects) of format unsuited to filing (which are together under the reference PRO 30/70/2), and documents of abnormally large size (to be found under PRO 30/70/8)
References to items which have been removed from the numerical sequence and placed in PRO 30/70/2 or PRO 30/70/8 have been noted where appropriate.

Timothy Edward Charles Hoare8th Baronet Hoare, 1934-1934
The Chatham and Pitt papers listed here must have originally formed part of the collection in PRO 30/8, but remained in the possession of the Taylor family, William Stanhope Taylor, also a great-nephew of John, Earl of Chatham, being the other executor. They then passed to Sir Edward Hoare who inherited them through his mother, a direct descendant of W. S. Taylor and, therefore, of the elder Pitt.
