Description

This series consists of private letters written to Lord Northcote when he was Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia from 1904 to 1908 by Mr. A.J. Balfour, Mr. J. Chamberlain and Lord Elgin.

The letters of the two former correspondents deal as much with the British political scene as with the Australian; those of Lord Elgin, who was Secretary of State for the Colonies at the time, form a valuable supplement to the official despatches sent to Lord Northcote.
