The British Transport Police Authority (BTPA) was established in 2004 under the Railways, Transport and Safety Act 2003 and is the independent body that oversees the British Transport Police in England, Wales, and Scotland. The BTPA is a public corporation responsible to the Department for Transport; its members are appointed by the Transport Secretary.
