Description

Prisoner's name: Richard Blakeway; James Blakeway.

Prisoner's age: Richard 35; James 28.

Court and date of trial: Shropshire Summer Assizes at Shrewsbury, 7 August 1830.

Crime: Horse stealing from Richard Wainwright.

Initial sentence: Death commuted to 14 years transportation.

Gaoler's report: Character etc not known.

Annotated: Nil.

Petitioner: 30 people of Rushbury, Shropshire and 2 character references.

Grounds for clemency: Usually honest, sober and industrious;

Other papers: Note to say prisoners are about to embark for New South Wales and the Horse and Cart would become a forfeiture on the conviction of the prisoners. A note stating that the character of James Blakeway cannot be forwarded as it is with the office of appointments for the New Police. A note annotated 'answered privately by Sir Robert Peel'.
