1 individual petition (William Webb, of Chester Place, Bethnal Green [Middlesex], prisoner's father, undersigned by 25 people from Bethnal Green including the prosecutor [addresses given]) on behalf of William Webb, 18 years, convicted at the Old Bailey Session in December 1838, for larceny - stealing a pair of boots, property of Henry Worms. There is also a gaoler's report stating 'in prison before'. Grounds for clemency: youth - 18 years, previous good character, first offence, petitioner's wife died 4 years ago leaving him with 3 children and he has just been informed of his son's convicted. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation, held on board Fortitude hulk. Annotated: nil, 23 March 1839. MZ34
