The medical and surgical journal of HM convict ship Recovery for 5 October 1835 to 16 March 1836 by Alexander Neill, during which time the said ship was employed in passage to Sydney New South Wales.

Folios 1-4: Copy of daily sick.
Folio 5: Charles Seaman, private, 28th Regiment; case number 1; disease or hurt, spasmodic diarrhoea. Put on sick list, 27 October 1835. Discharged 29 October 1835 to duty.
Folios 5-7: William Barlow, boy, aged 8; case number 2; disease or hurt, worm, fever and hydrocephalus. Put on sick list, 14 November 1835. Died 25 November 1835.
Folios 7-8: John Fisher, convict, aged 16; case number 3; disease or hurt, fever. Put on sick list, 1 November 1835. 3 December 1835 is quite convalescent.
Folios 8-9: Edward Mears, convict, aged 16; case number 4; disease or hurt, fever. Put on sick list, 5 November 1835. 5 December 1835 convalescent.
Folio 9: William Bishop, convict, aged 23; case number 5; disease or hurt, pneumonia. Put on sick list, 26 November 1835. Discharged 3 December 1835.
Folio 10: William Cock, convict, aged 29; case number 6; disease or hurt, plethora and diarrhoea. Put on sick list, 27 November 1835. Discharged 3 December 1835 cured.
Folios 10-12: Thomas Reynolds, convict, aged 22; case number 7; disease or hurt, fever and hephritis. Put on sick list, 4 November 1835. Convalescent 15 December 1835.
Folios 12-14: Mortimer Dillon, convict, aged 24; case number 8; disease or hurt, diarrhoea followed by low fever. Put on sick list, 16 November 1835. Discharged 23 December 1835 cured.
Folios 14-16: John Proctor, convict, aged 22; case number 9; disease or hurt, fever followed by inflammation of the chest and dysentery. Put on sick list, 26 November 1835. Discharged 11 January 1836 cured.
Folios 16-19: John Bergen, private (14 years a soldier), aged 38; case number 10; disease or hurt, aberration of mind and total loss of memory. Put on sick list, 19 December 1835. Died 4 February 1836.
Folios 19-20: John Barlow, aged 6 years (son of one of the soldiers and brother of the boy who died of hyancephalus); case number 11; disease or hurt, abscesses in the thighs and over the hip joints of the right leg for 12 months previous to his coming on board at which period he was a mere skeleton. Put on sick list, [?]. Died 7 February 1836.
Folio 20: a nosological abstract of the medical cases contained in the journal.
Folios 21-23: Surgeon's general remarks. On 5th October 1835, the Guard embarked at Deptford, consisting of 1 staff, 1 subaltern, 2 sergeants, 1 drummer, 26 rank and file of the 28th Regiment, accompanied by 8 women and 4 children. On the 19th at Spithead we received on board 160 male convicts from the Leviathan and 120 from the York Hulk and in the 30th got under weigh, previous to which, the convicts were discharged to the hulks in consequence of their being a great nuisance on board.
