Medical and surgical journal of HMS Plover for 19 September 1851 to 1 July 1852 by Thomas B. Forster, during which time the said ship was employed in the Behring’s Straits. [Note: ADM 101/113/2, 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D and 2E are produced as a single document: order as ADM 101/113/2].
Folio 1: Copy of sick list.
Folios 2-6: John H. Lawson, aged 27, able seaman; case number 1; disease or hurt, frost bite. Put on sick list, 23 October 1851 at Grantley Harbour. Discharged 30 June 1852 invalided.
Folios 6-7: J.J. Lindsay, aged 26, clerk in charge; case number [?]; disease or hurt, rheumatism. Put on sick list, 23 November 1851 at Grantley Harbour. Discharged 26 November 1851 to duty. Re-entered 4 March 1852 and discharged 17 March 1852. Entered again 21 March 1852 and discharged 25 March 1852.
Folios 8-9: Thomas Brooker, aged 26, private, marine; case number [?]; disease or hurt, frost bite. Put on sick list, 20 February 1852 at Grantley Harbour. Discharged 27 June 1852 to duty.
Folios 10-12: Blank.
Folio 12: A nosological synopsis of the sick book kept during the period of the journal.
Folio 13: A list of men who have received wounds or hurts, during the period of the journal. John R. Lawson, aged 27, able seaman, ship’s paybook number-62, date pension certificate granted 28 November 1851, frost bite of the left foot followed by mortification occasioning the loss of the great toe and the other toes to the middle of the 2nd phalanx, it occurred while employed with a shooting party procuring fresh provisions for the ship’s use. John Berry, aged 28, able seaman, ship’s paybook number-13, date pension certificate not granted, frost bite of the left great toe followed by the loss of the tip of it.
Folios 13-15: Surgeon’s general remarks including a table showing the monthly range and mean of the thermometer for September 1851 to June 1852 (folio 15).
Folio 16: Blank.
