Description (What the record is about)
- This dataset relates to the 1996 update of the Coast Protection Survey of England. Respondents were asked to update the data on defence elements which had been gathered in the original 1993-94 survey and the 1995 update. Unlike previous sweeps of the survey, they were also asked to supply information about defence elements whose condition had been classified as"Class 4" (i.e. likely to require capital works within the next five years). Data on"Class 4" defences was gathered via a Form D form and is held in the Form_d_96 table, while the updated data on defence elements is held in the Element_96 table. Where new information about defence elements required consequential changes to the data on defence lengths, these changes were made by the survey contractor to the data in the Length_96 table. The dataset consists of three tables (Length_96, Element_96 and Form_d_96) which contain data relating to defence lengths, defence elements and"Class 4" defence elements, respectively.
