- Elizabeth Miller ELOUI, alias PENROSE, alias Lee MILLER: American. Using the professional name Lee MILLER, ELOUI was from 1939 a fashion photographer for 'Vogue' magazine. She came to notice in 1941 as being in contact with W F R MACARTNEY, a communist who in 1925 had been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment as a Soviet spy, and was herself an idealistic communist. In 1947 she married the artist Roland PENROSE
