Helmut CLISSMANN / Elizabeth CLISSMANN: German. A student and leading Nazi Party member in Dublin in the second half of the 1930's, CLISSMANN seems to have worked both for the Abwehr and the Jahnke Bureau, a political intelligence-gathering organisation working on behalf of the Nazi Party. This work involved establishing pre-war links with the IRA. Early in the war the Abwehr planned to send CLISSMANN to Wales to make contact with Welsh nationalists, or if that bid failed, to contact IRA elements in Britain. CLISSMANN worked during the war for an Irish Bureau in the German Foreign Office. He later operated an Abwehr unit in Tunis. His wife, Elizabeth, also worked for the German Foreign Office
