Eugen GLUCKAUF: German, British. Born in Germany, GLUCKAUF worked as a physical chemist in the late 1930s at Durham University and at Imperial College London. In 1947 he was appointed to a post at the Atomic Energy Research Establishment at Harwell and in 1952/53 investigations were undertaken into his reliability in the light of some alleged dishonesty on his part in 1934 and members of his family remaining behind the Iron Curtain. Nothing adverse to him was discovered
