Boris DAVISON: British. Born in Russia of third-generation British parents, DAVISON was educated at Leningrad University and left Russia in 1938 following the non-renewal of his residence permit. An able mathematician who had already published learned articles in the West, he was employed at the Royal Aircraft Establishment, then with Professor PEIERLS at Birmingham and finally at AERE Harwell. Nothing was ever found to his detriment but the presence of his parents in Russia caused his case to be kept under review and he eventually emigrated to Canada
