Leo KATZ, alias KAUTZKI: variously described as Czech formerly Austrian, German, stateless and Romanian. Said to be an employee of (W)OSTWAG, or 'The Eastern Trading Company', a firm set up by Soviet Military Intelligence in Berlin in 1922 which provided genuine business cover for a large number of Fourth Department (military intelligence) agents. The file records various business dealings involving KATZ, including the purchase in 1938 of Grumman aircraft ostensibly for Turkey but probably for Republican Spain
