Description

A, B and Y Committee papers

  • The A Committee took over from the AT Subcommittee in November 1943 and met until Aug 1944, when it was combined with the B Committee (qv), to form the Y Committee. Topics covered include the supply of equipment at home and abroad, provision and training of Sigint manpower, DF and the setting up of a new intercept station at Forest Moor, near Harrogate.
  • The B Committee took over the responsibilities of the former Communications Subcommittee for the provision fo all Y Service communications, both at home and abroad, including those required for the invasion of Europe, at the end of October 1943. Like the A Committee, it was disbanded in August 1944 and both were replaced by the Y Committee.
  • The Y Committee met between August 1944 and October 1945. Discussions centred on provision of Y Service communications, technical equipment and manpower, particularly as affected by the successful progress of the war in Europe and its impact on capabilities to support the effort in the Far East.
