Friedrich Alfred GARTHE, alias Arnold, Dr SCHULTZ, JENSEN: born in South Africa of a German father and an English mother, he served in the First World War in the German Army and Air Force. From 1915 to 1917 he was a prisoner-of-war in England. After the war he worked as a salesman for the German branch of the Hudson Motor Car Company. He joined the Abwehr in 1934. During the Second World War he served in Germany and France, holding senior posts in Paris, 1940-1943 and Lyons, 1943-1944. In 1944-45 he was ill with a heart condition. He was arrested in 1945 and reported to be anti-Nazi and pro-British. Under interrogation he provided detailed accounts of the operations, structure and personnel of the Abwehr in Paris and Lyons
