Description (What the record is about)
-
John Wilson Croker. Approval was given on behalf of His Majesty to the establishment, from 1st January last, of the number of Clerks for the Admiralty. Navy and Victualling Offices. Give details of the classes into which the Clerks have been divided, and point out the omission from the list of the 15th clerk in the office for seamen's wages. Are sending lists of those Clerks who, under the new establishment, will receive less salary than at present, and ask for directions. Explain their circumstances and ask for particular consideration in the cases of John Knowles and Charles William Foster. There are cases of hardship of Messrs Inman and Horn, 2nd and 3rd clerks in the ticket office and Messrs Woolridge and Foster, 2nd and 3rd Clerks in the Secretary's office. Are sending representations made by Mr Ottey, Chief Clerk in the Allotment Office, Mr Cresswell, Storekeeper and Accountant for Slops, but improperly called Chief Clerk of the Slop Office, Mr Rule, Receiver of Fees and John Taylor, 3rd Clerk in the Slop Office. The decision in Mr Cresswell's case should also apply to his clerks. Hope some addition can be made to the salaries of the 5 Junior Messengers of the office.
