Description (What the record is about)
-
Edward Hobbs to the Navy Board. I have examined the land at Woolwich belonging to the estate of the late John Bowater, which was offered for sale. Is sending plans of part of the dockyard, plans of the ropeyard and of the Royal Marine Barracks, and explains the benefits or otherwise of various parts of the land adjacent to the Crown property. General Burns wanted the Marine Barracks parade extended, and land in this area could also provide an infirmary. The land is that of the late William Harding, and Thomson's Marsh. The sums expected by Mr Long for the various portions of land are given, including details of leases to Ann Thomson, Robert Shipster, White, Peat, Allen, Samuel Harding, List, Silk Norman, Dunlop, Elcock and Richard and William Powes. Gives valuations of the land, which total a great deal less than Mr Long is seeking. Messrs Smith and Morgan of the Equitable Assurance Office are to value the property.
