Description (What the record is about)
-
William Marsden. James, the brother of Simeon Stocker, had petitioned for his brother to be paid for the time he served as acting builder of the dockyard at Malta. Stocker was appointed in October 1800, having been Foreman of the Shipwrights at Gibraltar, to be Master Shipwright at Malta. Although provision was made for the appointment by Order in Council of May 1801, he has never been paid. Propose he should be paid the same as the Master Shipwright at Gibraltar. Commissioner Otway has reported this matter and says that the Naval Storekeeper and Master Shipwright, Mr. Carey, at Gibraltar had a bad relationship giving rise to complaints. He thinks they should be separated for the good of the Navy and suggests that Carey should move to Malta and Stocker should return to Gibraltar.
