William Marsden. Unsigned letter asking for the period when Mr. Ferris served as Acting Lieutenant on the Glatton to be taken into account to enable him to take the Lieutenants' examination. Ferris has undertaken a special journey from Leith to London at his own cost and makes frequent visits to the Admiralty. The regulation, which disallowed this sort of service to be taken into account, when qualifying to become a Lieutenant, was made after the Glatton sailed to New South Wales. Mr. Ferris was given Sir Philip Stephens' protection on several occasions.
