Description (What the record is about)
-
William Marsden. Have ordered the Monmouth at Portsmouth to be prepared for the reception of a flag Officer. The mainmast, having been struck by lightning, is very weak so the ship should be taken out for inspection and appears unfit for service at sea. Ask whether the damage should be corrected in addition to being prepared to receive a flag Officer.
