Description (What the record is about)
-
William Marsden. Following instructions from their Lordships, the Sheerness Officers have surveyed the Prince of Wales gunboat and report she is fit for Naval service. However, the Navy Officer points out that the vessel has been built to the plan of hovelling boat ADMused by Pilots of the Cinque Ports], but is much longer, lugger rigged and has a 24-pounder fitted midships. In firing the gun the wash strake and cuddy were destroyed. As a result, there is no shelter for the men. The Officers think the ship is no longer fit to serve as a gunboat, nor can they recommend any other use for her. Ask for directions.
