Description (What the record is about)
-
William Marsden. A list of the Courts Martial at which Mr. Hoseason officiated as Judge Advocate are to be provided to check whether minutes have been submitted, so payment of Mr. Brouncker can be approved. A payment of 70 pagodas per month for house rent for the Naval Officer will not be approved until it is shown that a similar allowance has been made to the Naval Storekeeper at Madras. In 1774 an allowance of 30 pagodas a month was paid to Mr. Cuthbert. No such allowance has been paid since then because Mr. Sewell, Mr. Brouncker's predecessor, did not need payment. Vice Admiral Gambier explained this and said that while carrying out his responsibility he lived in a house owned by a co-partnership of merchants in which his name stood. Mr. Brouncker's situation is different and is explained in a letter from Admiral Rainier.
