William Marsden. Captain Laird, regulating Captain at Dundee, has been ordered to forward the newly raised men to the Nore by trading vessels. The Clerk of the Cheque at Sheerness is to pay the owners of such trading vessels a guinea a man but the manager of the Dundee Shipping Company, says that to go to Sheerness would lose his Captains money, as they would lose a tide in doing so. As they carry a perishable cargo of fresh salmon, the loss would be even greater. Recommend Captain Laird should continue to pay for the cost of carrying men to the Nore and thus avoid having to go to Sheerness.
