CaptainWilliam Young to the Board. He has received a letter from Admiral Lord Gardner, which says it seems that the Board consider Captain Young to be still in charge of producing gunboats at Dublin for Irish coastal defence, but he says he has received an order from Rear Admiral Whitshed of December 1803, to proceed to Cork for a particular service, which is now completed. In February 1804 he received another order from Lord Gardner to accompany Captain Sturgeon along the south west coast of Ireland to find sites for erecting signal houses and to supervise their erection and fitting out. He concludes that someone else was carrying out the gunboat responsibility at Dublin. It is impossible to do both jobs, the distance between them being too great. Suggests that another Officer is appointed to work in Dublin or that he himself should be reappointed.
