Description (What the record is about)
-
John Leard, Fiume. He has information about French actions in the Adriatic, gathered from local contacts. The French are recruiting troops in areas close to the Adriatic and are equipping four additional gun boats at Pesaro. They are building light vessels in the Po river. He first gave information about raising troops to Lord Nelson by Captain Fyfee of the Cyclops and also to Mr. Paget. He thinks the French aim to get possession of the Morca and Albania. The Arrow anchored at Fiume, yesterday, and landed Mr. Wright, Consul at Corfu. Captain Vincent delivered a packet from Mr. Forrester to Mr. Leard for Lord Hawkesbury, which was sent express to Mr. Stuart at Vienna to be sent to Lord Hawkesbury. The Arrow took four days to get from Corfu and left the Anson and other ships cruising at the entrance to the Adriatic. The 5 frigates that escaped from Toulon have been driven into Messina.
