Description (What the record is about)
-
Philip Stephens. Murdock McLeod served as a Pilot on the Pearl and on her books he was borne from August to October 1776, when the last muster books were received. On the sick book of the Antigua hospital, he was received from that ship on March 5th 1777. As a Pilot should not be discharged without a certificate of service so they may be paid, it is assumed he had one, which may be paid abroad or negotiated to appeal in a claim later. It is alleged in Messrs. Watson and Rashleigh's letter that he did not obtain a certificate and it will be a charitable act to pay him some allowance enabling him to return to Halifax, Nova Scotia. He should be paid as a Pilot from 11th August 1776 to March 1777, provided Messrs. Watson and Rashleigh indemnify the public should any double payment or future claim appear against him.
