Description (What the record is about)
-
Philip Stephens. No allowance for house rent, coal, wood and candles was made to Vice Admiral Montagu or any of his predecessor Commanders in Chief in North America. The Naval Officers at Halifax have, by their agents at Boston, paid and inserted in their contingent accounts, charges of house rent for Commodore Hood and Vice Admiral Montague, and have produced orders from them in indentification of their payments. There are articles which could not be allowed in passing the accounts, without Admiralty direction, which were sent on 21st June 1775 with accounts for Mr. Gerrish and Mr. Williams, the late and present Officers at Halifax. Have received no directions and ask for them to be sent.
