Description
Content
Folios 234-237. Letter from R Collison, CH Kipling and Edward Daniell, Medical Officers to the Newport Pagnell Poor Law Union to the Poor Law Commission enclosing a statement of the remuneration given to them for attending the parishes of the union and stating that despite repeated applications to the board of guardians for more ample stipends, these had been refused. If the Commission feels that it should not interfere, they would not wish to press the matter and place themselves in an uncomfortable position with the board of guardians. Annotated: by Robert Weale that the remuneration to medical officers in this union is unusually low. He suggests the Commission send a copy of the letter to the board of guardians, advising them to make contracts for half a year only in anticipation of the presumed uniform plan resulting from the renewal of the Commission by Parliament. A copy of this letter would be sufficient reply to the medical officers. Attached is a table of average expenditure for the parishes of the Newport Pagnell Poor Law Union amended to be a list of the medical expenses of the parishes for the years 1835 and 1840. Paper Number: 1851/A/1840.
