- Folios 378-379. Letter from C Swann to the Poor law Commission regarding his application for the post of Clerk to the Guardians of the Basford Poor Law Union. He has been informed that the guardians will not allow him to appoint an under-clerk at his own expense to perform the duties not personally required of him. He is a solicitor and coroner for Nottingham and would not have time for the 'manual labour of the office', but would be willing to attend meetings of the guardians, and would superintend the under-clerk. He asks for a reply by return. Annotated: cannot say what [the Guardians'] decision would be. Paper Number: 9025/B/1842. Poor Law Union Number 334. Counties: Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
