- Folios 435-436. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission to William Ashton, Clerk to the Guardians of the Basford Poor Law Union, acknowledging his letter of 8 June regarding the liability of overseers of the parish of Arnold. The rule is that succeeding overseers do not have to pay debts accruing during the time of their predecessors. However, this does not apply in the case of the demands of the guardians. The Commission therefore believe the succeeding overseers are bound to make rates and satisfy the demands of the guardians. Paper Number: 6802/B/1841. Poor Law Union Number 334. Counties: Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
