Folio 19: Valentine Newman, aged 21, Able Seaman, HMS Chesapeake; disease or hurt, contusion of back. Put on sick list, 25 June 1859, the River Pei-ho. Discharged to duty, 14 July 1859.
Folio 19: Charles Hoare, aged 26, Leading Seaman, HMS Chesapeake; disease or hurt, wound of foot by musket ball. Put on sick list, 25 June 1859, the River Pei-ho. Discharged to duty, 18 July 1859.

Folio 19: Thomas Burgess, aged 24, Ordinary Seaman, HMS Chesapeake; disease or hurt, wound of shoulder by musket ball or splinter. Put on sick list, 25 June 1859, the River Pei-ho. Discharged to duty, 28 July 1859.
Folio 20: Henry Dunn, aged 19, Ordinary Seaman, HMS Chesapeake; disease or hurt, wound of foot by arrow. Put on sick list, 25 June 1859, the River Pei-ho. Discharged to duty, 30 September 1859. Wounded just below the outer malleolus of the left foot on shore on 25 June, he pulled the arrow out and took no further notice of the wound until 10 July when he presented himself with a small festering sore.
Folio 20: James Baldwin, aged 20, Ordinary Seaman, HMS Chesapeake; disease or hurt, wound of foot by splinter. Put on sick list, 25 June 1859, the River Pei-ho. Discharged to duty, 28 August 1859. He paid no attention to the wound at the time but on 12 July applied with a small, foul looking ulcer.
Folio 20: Mr St John Wagstaffe, aged 27, Assistant Paymaster, HMS Chesapeake; disease or hurt, contusion of thigh etc. Put on sick list, 25 June 1859, the River Pei-ho. Discharged to duty, 1 July 1859. Doing duty as Secretary Clerk he received a number of bruises on board the Opossum and other gun boats, either in climbing the sides or from splinters, he did not know.
Folio 20: Mr Frederick Day, aged 24, Assistant Engineer, HMS Chesapeake; disease or hurt, contusion of shoulder from splinter. Put on sick list, 25 June 1859, the River Pei-ho. Discharged to duty, 30 June 1859. Wound received on duty in one of the gun boats.

Folio 21: Mr Ryan, aged 35, Gunner, Gun Boat Plover; disease or hurt, gunshot wound, amputation of arm. Put on sick list, 25 June 1859, the River Pei-ho. Sent to HMS Assistance, 4 July 1859, and afterwards invalided. Wounded in the right arm by round shot during the bombardment. The limb so much shattered that amputation had to be performed that afternoon by the circular operation, on board HMS Coromandel, to which several of the wounded were taken during the engagement.
Folio 21: Mr Augustus J Burmaston, aged 26, Master of the Banterer; disease or hurt, contusion of knees. Put on sick list, 25 June 1859, the River Pei-ho. Taken aboard the HMS Assistance and afterwards invalided. Severe contusion of both knees by a spent round shot. ‘He gave but little heed to the accident and remained on board his vessel for some days’.
Folio 22: Richard Powell, aged 24, Ordinary Seaman, gun boat Kestrel; disease or hurt, gunshot wound, amputation of thigh. Put on sick list, 25 June 1859, the River Pei-ho. Taken aboard the HMS Assistance and afterwards invalided. Struck by a round shot during the bombardment, which shattered his right leg and necessitated amputation at the lower third of the thigh the same evening.
Folio 22: William Scott, aged 21, Able Seaman, gun boat Kestrel; disease or hurt, gunshot wound, amputation of thigh. Put on sick list, 25 June 1859, the River Pei-ho. Sent to HMS Assistance, 4 July 1859, and invalided but died shortly afterwards. Had his left leg carried off during the bombardment, amputation by flaps was performed that afternoon at the lower third of the thigh.
Folio 23: James Mailey, aged 25, Marine, gun boat Kestrel; disease or hurt, gunshot wound, amputation of thigh. Put on sick list, 25 June 1859, the River Pei-ho. Sent to HMS Assistance, 4 July 1859, and invalided but died 9 September 1859. Lost his left leg by round shot, amputation of the thigh, circular, below the middle was performed the same evening on board the Coromandel.
Folio 23: George Ward, aged 23, Marine, Nimrod or Comorant; disease or hurt, gunshot wound, amputation of leg. Put on sick list, 25 June 1859, the River Pei-ho. Sent to HMS Assistance, 4 July 1859, and invalided.
Folio 23: William Pagien, aged 26, Marine, gun boat Plover; disease or hurt, gunshot wound, amputation of arm. Put on sick list, 25 June 1859, the River Pei-ho. Sent to HMS Assistance, 4 July 1859, and invalided. Had his right forearm and elbow shattered by a round shot during the bombardment.
Folio 23: Thomas Alders, aged 19, Ordinary Seaman, HMS Nimrod; disease or hurt, gunshot wound, amputation of arm. Put on sick list, 25 June 1859, the River Pei-ho. Sent to HMS Assistance, 4 July 1859, where he subsequently died. Lost his left arm by a round shot, it was amputated, circularly, soon afterwards. His wound was healing when he was attacked with some disease apparently unconnected with the surgery and died.
Folio 24: William Sent, aged 20, Ordinary Seaman, HMS Nimrod; disease or hurt, injury of arm by explosion, amputation of arm. Put on sick list, 25 June 1859, the River Pei-ho. Sent to HMS Assistance, 4 July 1859, and invalided. His right arm most severely burned and lacerated by an explosion of a charge of powder. Amputation by flaps was performed 4 inches above the elbow on 27 June there being too much damage for repair.
Folio 24: John Fuge, aged 26, Able Seaman, gun boat Lee; disease or hurt, gunshot wound of shoulder and fracture of humerus. Put on sick list, 25 June 1859, the River Pei-ho. Sent to HMS Assistance, 4 July 1859, and invalided.
Folio 25: William Lee, aged 21, Ordinary Seaman, gun boat Lee; disease or hurt, gunshot wound of foot, partial amputation. Put on sick list, 25 June 1859, the River Pei-ho. Sent to HMS Assistance, 4 July 1859, and invalided. His left great toe was partially carried off, necessitating amputation.
Folio 25: Thomas Jones, aged 22, Able Seaman, gun boat Lee; disease or hurt, wound of hip and thigh by musket ball. Put on sick list, 25 June 1859, the River Pei-ho. Sent to HMS Assistance, 4 July 1859, and invalided. Wounded in the right thigh and hip, the ball passed backwards and downwards for about three inches and made its exit.
Folio 25: Matthew Gale, aged 28, Able Seaman, gun boat Opossum; disease or hurt, wound of foot by splinter. Put on sick list, 25 June 1859, the River Pei-ho. Sent to HMS Assistance, 4 July 1859, and invalided. The outer side of the left foot was extensively lacerated along its whole length and the fibula fractured above the malleolus.
Folio 25: Matthias Nevan, aged 21, Ordinary Seaman, gun boat Haughty; disease or hurt, burn of face etc from explosion. Put on sick list, 25 June 1859, the River Pei-ho. Sent to HMS Assistance, 4 July 1859, and invalided. Grievously burnt by an explosion of powder on board his gun boat, his face, arms, nates and genitals were all involved in the injury. Oiled cotton wadding was freely used to invest the injured parts.
