Folios 43-44. Letter from Charles Hart, Clerk to the Liverpool Select Vestry, to the Poor Law Board. He reports that the erection of the new workhouse has progressed and it can now accommodate 2,618 paupers. The average number in the house in the week ending 24 January 1852 was 2,251. There were 1,054 children in the Kirkdale Schools on 31 January 1852; the prescribed number is 1,250. Annotated: asks if anything should be done to limit numbers. At the moment, this would be 'inexpedient', as new accommodation is being opened each month. Mr Farnall [H B Farnell, Poor Law Inspector], comments that he is to attend a meeting in Liverpool and will report further. Paper Number: 4317/1852.
