Description
Content
Folio 52. Letter from John S Ford, care of Marazion Post Office, to the Poor Law Commission. He complains that because of illness he applied for relief at Kenwyn, but was refused. He approached the Mayor of Truro twice and was granted an order for relief, which was ignored by the parish officers. An approach to another magistrate resulted in his admission to the workhouse, but he was discharged the next day, although still unable to earn a living. He writes to the Commissioners, on the advice of Mr James, Truro Town Clerk, asking how he should proceed. Annotated: to write to the parish officers, as their observations may be needed. Annotated draft letter to the churchwardens and overseers, forwarding Ford's letter and asking for their comments. Draft letter to Ford telling him that on enquiry, the Commissioners are satisfied that the parish officers have done their duty and he has no just grounds for complaint. Poor Law Union Number 57. Counties: Cornwall.
