Folios 248-249. Letter from Thomas S Simkiss, District Auditor, Wolverhampton, [Staffordshire], to Mr Lumley [William Golden Lumley, Assistant Poor Law Commissioner], informing him of the amount due to Simkiss from the overseers of the Borough of Bewdley; he further explains that the certified balance was £57 16s 11¾d. This consisted of £40 2s 0¾d according to the overseers account and £17 14s 11d [which they] disallowed. This was reported [27 June 1846] and acknowledged by the Poor Law Commission [2 July 1846] number 9095/B/1846. Annotation: Inform the auditor that they are not prepared to say he can now enforce the warrant. No application was made to the Poor Law Commission. In consequence of his resignation the late Master was failed and [so the matter] was dropped. Query, should not the auditor be informed on what grounds [he cannot enforce the warrant]? Answer to the effect of the former part of the above minute. Paper Number: 5230/1848. Poor Law Union Number 530. Counties: Worcestershire, Staffordshire and Shropshire.
